A woman in Alhambra, California says she finished praying and noticed an image of the Virgin Mary in her melted candle. Sure. Human are a pattern-seeking species. Our brains do it for us. It’s how we’ve gotten as far as we have.
If there was no Virgin Mary in our collective mythological library this woman probably would have seen the sphinx, Emperor Palpatine, or a snuggy fanatic. But there is a Virgin Mary in human superstition and it’s no coincidence that the woman in question happens to be Catholic and imagining the Mother of Jesus.
Once as a child I looked at a cloud and saw Wile E. Coyote. I’m just saying.
